I’ve been running Emberly Chimney Cleaners since 2009, and I’ve personally inspected more chimneys than I can count. I’m NFPA 211 certified and hold a Georgia Home Improvement license, which means I can sign off on every Level 2 inspection we perform in Marietta and the surrounding 17 cities we cover. My job now is mostly making sure our written prices match the scope, that every photo record gets uploaded, and that our 365-Day Done Right Promise actually means something when someone calls back. I still climb when we’re short-handed, though my knees prefer the office these days. The thing that still makes me laugh: the time we found a squirrel’s winter stash of 47 acorns packed into a smoke chamber off Lower Roswell Road. The homeowner thought their fireplace was haunted. Marcus T., Lead Technician
Marcus has been with us six years and runs the majority of our chimney sweep and inspection appointments in Cobb County. He’s CSIA certified and specializes in Class III creosote removal, the hard, tar-like buildup that forms when wood burns inefficiently and can ignite at temperatures above 1,000 degrees. Marcus is the one who explains flue liner condition in plain English, pointing out spalling brick or deteriorated mortar joints on the tablet so you see exactly what he sees. Off the clock, he coaches youth basketball in Kennesaw and has a running bet with Corrine about which Marietta neighborhood produces the most cricket installations per capita. He’s currently winning with Indian Hills.
Darnell K., Senior Installer
Darnell handles our chimney cap and crown work, liner installations, and full rebuilds when a flue has deteriorated past safe operation. Terrence joined us in 2022 and is working toward his CSIA certification while handling basic sweeps, cap installations, and camera-assisted inspections under direct supervision. He’s already proficient at identifying pyrolysis damage, the hidden charring of nearby combustibles from long-term heat exposure that shows up on our infrared camera before it’s visible to the eye. Terrence grew up in Smyrna and knows the older chimney systems common in post-war Marietta subdivisions, where original clay flue tiles often lack the height for modern insert installations. He asks more questions than anyone on the team, which Corrine considers a feature, not a bug. His current obsession is learning to fabricate custom chimney shrouds from copper, a skill Darnell is slowly passing on.
